Chris Patten and Hong Kong

On our recent trip to Hong Kong, I wasn’t surprised that everybody I talked to about the former governor Lord Patton of Barnes had a very high opinion of him.
He was Baths MP from 1979 to 1992, and as a staff photographer at the Bath Chronicle I photographed Chris most weeks.
Here is one of my favourites from Red Nose Day!

In 1992 I was sent to London to meet Chris as he left his flat in London at 6.30am.
Then I went in his car to Conservative Central Office to Photograph him with the then Prime Minister John Major, and others at the press conference.
Finally I watched him board his helicopter back to Bath.
None of these pictures were ever published.
