Why I hate the World Cup.

 

I was working for a newspaper that wanted to cover the World Cup, but couldn’t afford to send a photographer.
So I would end up a non smoker sat under the big screen in a smoke-filled pub in darkest Twerton.
Watching the audience filling up with booze and shouting at the screen while I fired my flash in their faces and blinded them every time the action got going.

After England lost as usually happened, I trudged around town late at night looking for unhappy fans and waiting to be mugged.

Birthday honours

Winter Olympics gold medallist Amy Williams has been made an MBE after her success at Vancouver in the bob skeleton.
Photographed at Mayor Making where she became the first woman to be awarded at Freedom of the City.

Former mayor Councillor Loraine Morgan-Brinkhurst has been made an MBE for services to the community.
Ms Morgan-Brinkhurst, who represents the Newbridge ward on Bath and North East Somerset Council,  was photographed when she was the chair of Banes presenting awards to school crossing patrols.

Squirrels learn the trick.

 

 A few weeks ago I put a small box for bird food on top of a six-foot pole outside of our window.
Until today it work well with visits from Jackdaws and Jays plus with usual array of small birds.
But today the squirrels learned the trick of climbing the pole, I don't mind the tree rats having some food but they eat everything.
Trying to slow them up a bit I have modified the pole.
Its working at the moment but will keep you posted if they find away around.

Excellent lunch in Bath at a very good price, shall we go back for the Psychic Supper?

Its many years since I visited The Weston, but we looked in for a £4.95 pensioner’s carvery today. 
A choice of beef, pork, chicken or steak pie + loads of vegetables.
The decor was light and modern with a cheerful host and barman, the excellent lunch was really good value.
It’s easy to find on the Upper Bristol Road at the Weston traffic lights with a large car park, we will certainly be going back.

Our bird table gets several large visitors including Jackdaw and Jay but this Thrush is the first I have caught for a real closeup.
