Ben Fogle catches a flesh-eating bug

I was sorry to see TV personality Ben Fogle has caught a potentially fatal flesh-eating disease while filming a BBC TV series.
This is one of my pictures of Ben with Shauna Lowery and Sam the Sheep Dog filming “One man and His Dog” at Bowood house in Wiltshire.

The Day they set fire to Bath Abbey!

We have been having a clear out of junk and I came across this copy of the Bath Chronicle for August the 21st 1982 with a couple of my pictures of the fire in Bath Abbey taken a few years before I  started work for the Chronicle.

North Parade Passage Bath in the 60s

Some people think that the problem with the alcoholic and homeless in Bath is new.
But this picture from the 60s reminds me that the Salvation Army had a hostel, Hamilton Lodge in North Parade Passage.
You can also see Miss Philippa Savery’s antique shop which she donated to the Landmark Trust and is now used as holiday flats.

James Thomas Cycle Shop in Walcot Street Bath

In the 60s 83 Walcot Street Bath was owned by Dennis Thomas, The cycle business was started by his grandfather James in 1889 and in fact he had an original Penny Farthing and the equipment to build them still in the shop.
I bought my Italian Capri scooter there for 91 guineas, though latter he changed his allegiance to Japan and became a Honda stockist.
In the picture he is servicing the 125cc twin Honda that I purchased for £130 new in the mid 60s.
The shops motto was “AS OLD AS THE INDUSTRY AS MODERN AS THE MINUTE”.
Dennis was a keen Leica photographer and president of the Bath Photographic Society, I remember printing my first colour print in the kitchen of his Newbridge Hill home and warming the colour developer on his family Raburn.
The shop changed hands several times before Johns Bikes moved in and the shop returned to its original use.

Up to Seven

I've been doing a few snaps for a friend with a new shop “Up to Seven" in the Podium at Bath.
Thought it would be a chance for the grandchildren to try some better clothes than the Oxfam ones they usually wear. (only joking)

Progress on the giant underground car park at the new Southgate shopping centre in Bath.
A twelve frame join up taken with a Fuji E900, about two years old and probably discontinued now, last seen at about £100.
