New plans for Weston Super Mare Pier

We visited Weston Super Mare last
week for the first time since the fire.
The pier is a very sad site, but with
the release of new plans it looks like we
may get a new pier in the not to distant future.

I don’t think the Incredible
Hulk is impressed with the new plans!

Twerton Fire Brigade, Bath

My Father (also called Sam Farr) served in the Bath Fire brigade during the Second World War.
I imagine that’s how this little pocket book came into the family; it’s a 28 page book of the rules for the Twerton Fire Brigade published in 1907.
Here are a few sample pages, note the little bit about abstinence from spirituous liquor!

Fire in the Southgate Centre Bath

Tuesday’s fire and explosion in the New Southgate Shopping Centre
caused mass disruption in the town.
Most of the good pictures were taken by amateurs or professionals
who were lucky enough to be in Bath
before the town was shut down.
Large crowds gather in open spaces around the town.

Traffic backs up as the Churchill Bridge is closed for hours.
Passengers are left on the station as the trains
go straight through without stopping.
Workers are left waiting to return to the site.
Fire fighters cool the gas bottles.
The town was closed late into the evening; in fact I
walked three and a half miles to get around the centre for these pictures!

Arcade Machines and RAF Lyneham

I can never resist a visit to a amusement arcade; I found this unusual crane in Batemans Bay NSW.
Unlike most machines of this sort it picked up something every time, but gave you the chocolate by dropping it onto a small penny fall type thing pushing the chocolate.
But like penny fall part of the prize drops off the side back into the machine.
And I always loved the video games starting with Pong through Asteroids to Burn Out, but now the average home video game has graphics that are as good as the arcade machines.

And I have played on the ultimate video game while taking pictures at RAF Lyneham about 15 years ago.
I was given the chance to try landing a Hercules at night in one of its giant simulators.
Scary for a first time pilot, and the video games are never quite the same!!!!

Not the Tourist Exeter

Not sure where they are going but the
bear is bigger than both of them!
Just the thing for Christmas!
A pet shop I think!
And I thought Bath had a litter problem!
I know graffiti is important,
but is it worth jumping this high up
without safety rails to reach the last bit!

Spider

Being retired is great it means you
can waste ten minutes just watching
a tiny spider building its web!

Fly

My old mum always said “kill that fly it been walking on dog s**t now it’s on your food” and I though, it’s an old wives tale.

But this one that dropped in for lunch certainly looks like it’s been rolling in something bad!
