The village fence painting party at work today.

The village fence painting party at work today.

Tying the gate at Combe Hay Church.

I understand that Combe Hay Church is to reintroduce the children tying the gate till the groom throws money.
Wendy and Sam doing the throwing in 1970.

Fleet Air Arm Museum

Some nice pictures of the Fleet Air Arm Museum on Davids Blog

Foggy out the back window.

I was walking along the riverside from Green Park today when a very smoky BMW passed.
As it was the worst I’ve seen for years I snapped it thinking, it’s on its way to the BMW dealers.
I walked over the Churchill Bridge on the way to my own car when it passed again heading in the other direction.
In these days of cars having to pass strict pollution laws, how does someone drive when it’s always foggy out of the back window!

Then and Now.

About 20 years ago I attended a fire in a warehouse near the Churchill Bridge.
I finished late and left the printer to choose which negatives to print next morning.
When I came in at 10am next day, to my horror I found the printer had only printed the boring negatives of the fire engines on the Lower Bristol Road and missed the good picture across the river.
I had it printed and dashed to the newsroom where the editor David Flintham had the whole front page redesigned to lead with this picture.
The old warehouse is now offices and flats as this picture shows.

Then and now. my first Nikon F and latest Nikon D700.

When I bought the F in 1965 it was about £150 for a camera with no meter and certainly no autofocus, when that’s compared to average earnings in 1965 its around £4500.
About twice the price of the D700 which is a full frame digital that produces quality every bit as good a Kodachrome in the old F, but far more consistently.
The thing to remember is the 1965 Nikon F still works (apart from the self timer) I very much doubt that the D700 will still be working in 44 years!

VOTING IN CHURCH.

Instead of voting in an old garage as we have done for the last 34 years, today we voted at the church.
As the village has no hall it has recently been converted to a multi use building complete with toilet and sink.

Wendy and her ballot slip with 17 groups to pick from.
